As a full-time elementary literacy coach in Washington State, Heather divides her time between staff professional development, collaborating with professional learning communities and coaching one-on-one. The definition of a coach in her district is “an educator who supports teachers’ and administrators’ efficient and effective use of instructional strategies and curriculum to improve student learning.”
Every teacher deserves a coach
You can’t coach someone who doesn’t want to be coached
Work takes many different stances like consulting, collaborating and coaching
Listening and impeccable words make a difference
In her seventeen years in education she’s also worked as an English teacher in Korea, a homeschooling mom, a teacher-librarian, a columnist, a freelance writer and a senior editor.
She cherishes avocados, family time and good friends.
